Parasha "Zhemchugova" Ivanova Kovalyova was a star of Russian Count Nicholas Sheremetev's serf theater in the late 1700s.  He married and emancipated her and there is a legend that their son telling Czar Alexander II about his parents' story led to the emancipation of the Russian serfs in 1861.
